So far, 4,88,437 people recovered from the disease, while 66,856 patients are still under treatment in various hospitals across the state, Health Minister K K Shailaja said in a statement.

The minister also confirmed 25 more deaths on this day. The official death toll now stands at 2,022.

Local transmission of COVID-19 continues to be on the higher side as 4,989 of the newly reported cases contracted the virus through contact. Of this, the infection sources of 639 are unknown, the minister said. Apart from this, 53 healthcare workers also contracted the virus.

There are 66,856 active coronavirus cases in Kerala. As many as 3,18,079 are under observation. Among them, 3,01,749 are in home/institutional quarantine while 16,330 are in hospitals. 1,846 were admitted to hospitals on November 21.

Six new covid hotspots were identified in the state on Saturday while three regions were removed from the list. There are a total of 560 hotspots in the state.

COVID-19 has been confirmed for 6,028 people in Kerala on November 21.

The district-wise break-up of the infected are Malappuram 1054, Kozhikode 691, Thrissur 653, Palakkad 573, Ernakulam 554, Kollam 509, Kottayam 423, Alappuzha 395, Thiruvananthapuram 393, Kannur 251, Pathanamthitta 174, Kasaragod 138, Wayanad 135 and Idukki 85.

A total of 60,365 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The test positivity rate is 9.98. A total of 57,49,016 samples have so far been sent for testing, including routine samples, Airport Surveillance, Pooled Sentinel, CBNAT, Trunat, CLIA and Antigen Assay.

Twenty-eight deaths have been confirmed as being caused by COVID-19. One hundred and five of those diagnosed with the disease are from outside the State and 5,213 people were infected through contact. The contact source for 654 is not clear. Malappuram 996, Kozhikode 641, Thrissur 639, Palakkad 351, Ernakulam 387, Kollam 505, Kottayam 420, Alappuzha 392, Thiruvananthapuram 285, Kannur 176, Pathanamthitta 118, Kasaragod 126, Wayanad 125 and Idukki 52 were affected by the disease.

Fifty-six health workers were affected by the disease. Ernakulam 18, Thiruvananthapuram 7, Palakkad 6, Pathanamthitta, Kannur 5 each, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad 3 each, Kollam, Kasaragod 2 each, Kottayam and Thrissur 1 each were affected by the disease.

The test results of 6,398 people who were diagnosed and treated were negative. Thiruvananthapuram 611, Kollam 664, Pathanamthitta 137, Alappuzha 824, Kottayam 301, Idukki 62, Ernakulam 545, Thrissur 803, Palakkad 497, Malappuram 740, Kozhikode 634, Wayanad 151, Kannur 295 and Kasaragod 134 tested negative today. With this, 67,831 people have been diagnosed with the disease and are still undergoing treatment. 4,81,718 have so far been freed from COVID.

There are currently 3,15,518 people under surveillance in various districts of the state. Of these, 2,99,089 are under home / institutional quarantine and 16,429 in hospitals. A total of 2032 people were admitted to hospitals.

There are three new hotspots. The new hotspots are Kanchiyar (Cantonment Zone 1, 2 (sub ward) in Idukki district, Akathethara (6) in Palakkad district and Kavalangad (sub ward 14) in Ernakulam district. Eleven areas have been excluded from the hotspot. With this, there are a total of 557 hotspots.

The count of the infected healthcare workers from the districts are Kannur 9, Ernakulam & Kozhikode 8 each, Thiruvananthapuram 7, Thrissur 5, Pathanamthitta 4, Kollam 3, Kasaragod 2 and Malappuram 1.
 
The district-wise numbers of the patients who tested negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 507, Kollam 553, Pathanamthitta 228, Alappuzha 793, Kottayam 334, Idukki 78, Ernakulam 1,093, Thrissur 967, Palakkad 463, Malappuram 945, Kozhikode 839, Wayanad 72, Kannur 93 and Kasaragod 143. Till now,  3,55,943 people have been cured of Covid in Kerala.
 
There are currently 2,93,221 people totally under observation in various districts of the state – 2,71,744 in isolation at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 21,477 in hospitals. 2,437 persons were admitted to the hospitals today.

Five new places in Palakkad, Alappuzha and Ernakulam districts were declared as hotspots today even as 19 areas were excluded. At present, there are 657 hotspots in Kerala.
