The Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights ordered Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) schools in the state to ensure each session of the ongoing online classes does not exceed 30 minutes. The Commission also directed schools to provide breaks of 15 to 30 minutes after each session.

This new and welcoming development comes in wake of a complaint filed by parent of a student wherein they complained that the long and frequent use of mobile mobiles from 9 am to 5.30pm for online classes and then without a break spend hours for homework and other co-curricular activities is taking a toll on children. Majority of them are undergoing mental stress and also adversely impact their vision.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led schools across the country to embrace online learning and it is uncertain when schools can reopen. CBSE had earlier informed that online classes will go on for this academic year until further notice.

Prolonged exposure to digital technologies may affect children, hence authorities have been forced to look for ways to limit its dependency by creating age-appropriate schedules.

The Central Board of School Education (CBSE) on July 9 denied releasing any notice regarding declaration of Class 10 and 12 results on July 11 and 13 and termed the news ‘fake’. Rama Sharma PRO CBSE said.

“It has come to the notice of the Board that there is a fake message being circulated with regard to the declaration of class X and XII Board Results 2020. It is hereby clarified that the Board has not yet announced the result dates. Public is hereby advised to await the announcement on CBSE official website or social media account,” CBSE said in a statement.

The board earlier announced that the CBSE Class 10 and 12 results would be declared by July 15 based on the new assessment scheme. However, on Thursday, a notification started circulating in social media that considering the high demand and the remaining admission process of students in various universities and colleges, the CBSE along with the Ministry of HRD will release the results of students of Class 10 and 12 as early as possible.

Following the fake news going viral, many anxious students and parents reached out to the board via social media platforms to verify the details of the notification. Once the situation went out of control, the board issued a clarification from its official twitter handle calling the news fake.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) released a document mentioning the deleted portions from the syllabus and topics on democratic rights, gender, religion and caste, food security etc. are the chapters that are slashed. Students who appear for exams in 2021 will not be required to study these topics. The removal of lessons on democracy and rights in India has drawn attention on social media.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticised CBSE for dropping essential topics on partition, secularism and citizenship. She appealed to the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry not to curtail important lessons at any cost.

The central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has reduced the syllabus by 30 percent for classes 9 to 12. The revision was made to reduce the academic pressure on students during this covid crisis.

Among the topics, CBSE has removed some key chapters like federation, citizenship and secularism from its political science syllabus. Meanwhile, from class 12 business studies book, a chapter on demonetisation was deleted. Lessons on democratic rights, gender, religion and caste, food security in India are some of the chapters that will be omitted. The ministry announced the updated syllabus on Tuesday.

This is a much-needed relief for students who were anxious because of the uncertainties about their academic activities, amid COVID-19. The Central Board of Secondary Education(CBSE) has cut down the syllabus of Classes between 9 and 12 by up to 30 percent. Human Resources Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank announced in a tweet on July 7.

The move was made looking at the extraordinary situation prevailing in the country due to COVID-19 pandemic. The CBSE- country’s largest education board- said in a statement that the prevailing health emergency as well as the spread of COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in the loss of classroom teaching due to closure of schools. Therefore the board decided to revise the syllabus.

Looking at the extraordinary situation prevailing in the country and the world, #CBSE was advised to revise the curriculum and reduce course load for the students of Class 9th to 12th. @PMOIndia @HMOIndia @PIB_India @MIB_India @DDNewslive @cbseindia29 @mygovindia

The students were grappling with online classes amidst the nationwide lockdown since March 25. The fear was that especially for students giving their CBSE Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations in 2021, the academic portion would not be completed on time.

In June, the Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had pitched for a 30 percent reduction in the syllabus for all grades to make up for the loss caused by the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Supreme Court on Friday approved the CBSE’s assessment scheme to give marks to students for the cancelled Class 12 board exams. The board will prepare results for pending subjects on the basis of the exams that have already been conducted and internal assessment performance. The Class 12 exams will be declared by July 15, CBSE said.

Class 10 and Class 12 exams will not be held for remaining papers and the board may allow students to appear for the exam at a later date when the situation is conducive. The Supreme Court was hearing a petition filed by a group of parents who sought to cancel the remaining exams for Class 12 students in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, requesting that the results be announced based on internal assessment and assignments which has been done already as well as exams already conducted.

A similar relief was sought by the CISCE (Council of Indian School Certificate Examination) too. The assessment scheme will consider marks achieved by students in the last three papers of board exams. As per the assessment scheme, results of Class 10 and 12 students, who have completed all their exams, will be declared based on their performances in the exams.

“For students who have appeared in the examinations in more than three subjects, the average of the marks obtained in the best three performing subjects will be awarded in the subjects whose examinations have not been conducted,” CBSE Exam Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj said. “For students who have appeared in the examinations in only three subjects, the average of the marks obtained in the best two performing subjects will be awarded in the subjects whose examinations have not been conducted,”he said. For students who have appeared for only one or two exams, the assessment will be based on practical work and class projects. Such students, who are mainly from Delhi, also have the option of taking the written exams at a later date.

Schools and colleges across the country have been closed and exams postponed since March when the government announced the nationwide lockdown to contain the COVID-19 outbreak.

The CBSE will not conduct the pending examinations while the students of Class 12th will be given an option of appearing for exams after conditions are conducive, the Solicitor General told the Supreme Court on Thursday. The Class 12th students will get option to appear in exams or take assessment based on past three exams. The assessment results will be out by July 15, the Solicitor General told the court. The Centre will release a proper scheme of internal assessment by Friday.

The top Court said that there needs to be clarity in scheme as the delay in conducting exams will clash with admission process of universities. The court told the Centre that favorable conditions may vary from state to state and hence, the Centre must consider when they will revisit their decision, may be after a month.

The Supreme Court of India was hearing a plea filed by some parents whose children were to appear in the CBSE board exams. The parents had said in the plea that the board students could be exposed to COVID-19 infection if they appear for exams amid rising number of coronavirus cases in India. The top court had on June 17 asked the CBSE to consider cancelling the pending class 10th and 12th board examinations and allot marks on the basis of internal assessment. The CBSE board exam was postponed due to the coronavirus lockdown. However, on May 18, the Ministry of Human Resource Development released a revised time table for the pending board exams.
