The pandemic claimed 1054 lives in the last 24 hours which pushed the death toll over 80,000.
The country now has 9.90 lakh active cases. A total 38.59 lakh patients in the country have recovered from Covid-19.

However the sliver lining is the declining fatality, which currently stands at 1.64 percent. According to the health ministry, the case fatality rate (CFR) is one of the lowest in the world and efforts are on to further reduce it to less than one percent.

Maharashtra remains the worst affected state by the pandemic, followed by Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh.

Meanwhile, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said India has managed the coronavirus situation well and that the lockdown has helped prevent nearly 29 lakh cases.

At present, India’s total number of infections is only behind the United States, which still accounts for the highest number of cases and deaths.

The total number of coronavirus cases crossed the 40-lakh mark on Saturday to reach 40, 23,179 , as the country recorded 86,432 infections in the last 24 hours, accroding to the data by health ministry.

With 1, 089 fresh deaths, the toll reached 69, 561. At present, India has 8,46,395 active cases and as many as 31,07,233 people have recovered pushing the recovery rate to 77.2 percent.

India has been reporting more than 80,000 cases perday for the last three days now. India is now the third country after US and Brazil to record 40 lakh cases.

The COVID-19 case fatality rate due to the novel coronavirus infection has further declined to 1.73 percent.

It took 110 days for the Covid-19 cases in India to reach one lakh while it had taken 59 days more to go past the 10-lakh post.

Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh are the five states which reported the highest number of cases in the last 24 hours. These five states account for over 62 per cent of the active cases, according to the Health Ministry.

15 districts across these states have been exhibiting higher active caseload, fatality rates and a surge in COVID cases for the past four weeks. The Centre has now asked them to curb chain of transmission and bring mortality rate below 1 per cent.

Maharashtra reported its highest single-day spike of 19,218 new cases on Friday. The number of COVID-19 cases in the state now stand at 8,63,062. The state government will launch a state-wide campaign to screen 2.25 crore families for possible COVID-19.

After a brief drop, Delhi has seen a rise in the number of COVID-19 cases over the last few days. The national capital on Friday reported 2,914 fresh infections, its highest one-day spike in 69 days. Delhi now has over 1.85 lakh cases, while the death count jumped to 4,513, authorities said.

Now India is just 70,000 cases behind Brazil, the world’s second worst affected nation after the United States. The South American country, which has reported 40,91,801 cases so far, has showing initial signs of decrease in the spread of virus.

India’s COVID-19 cases tally crossed the 11 lakh mark with the highest single-day spike of 40,425 new cases and 681 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, informed the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry on Monday.

Total cases in the country now stands at 11, 18,043 while the death toll is 27,497.

The health ministry said that the total number of cases includes 3, 90,459 active cases and 7, 00,087 patients have been cured.

Maharashtra remains the worst affected state with 3, 10, 455 cases reported until July 19.

As per the information provided by the Indian Council of Medical Research(ICMR), 1, 40, 47,908 samples have been tested for covid-19 till July 19 ,of these 2,56,039 samples were tested yesterday.

The case fatality rate (CFR) has for the first time dropped below 2.5 percent which makes India’s CFR 1.78 points lower than the global average.

According to data released by the Union Health Ministry on July 19, 29 states and Union Territories have a CFR that is below the national average, with 14 states reporting a CFR of less than 1%.

However some states in the country where the CFR is higher than the national average is a matter of concern.

Among the big states, Maharashtra (3.85), Gujarat (4.48) and West Bengal (2.67) continue to report CFR above the national average.

Among those with CFR below the national average are Telangana (0.93), Andhra Pradesh (1.31), Tamil Nadu (1.75), Karnataka (2.06) and Uttar Pradesh (2.36) – states that have among the highest virus caseloads and which have been driving India’s Covid surge over the last two weeks.

Meanwhile, a study conducted jointly by researchers at IIT Bhubaneswar and the AIIMS here has shown that the spread of COVID-19 may pick up during peak monsoon and winter with a fall in the temperature.
