Taapsee’s Loop Lapeta ,may be India’s first film to get COVID-19 special insurance

Taapsee Pannu’s upcoming movie, ‘Loop Lapeta’ is likely to become the first Indian movie to get COVID-19 special insurance.

Producer Atul Kasbekar said that the producers are in touch with a legal firm to formulate COVID-19 insurance for all their future projects. Till now, insuring a film implied guarding the product against unforeseen incidents like the illness of an actor or occurrence of natural calamities leading to delays in the schedule. The producer said that since COVID-19 is a new development, the crew is working out the details of what the insurance plan should entail.

So if a crew member tests positive, the entire unit will be quarantined, leading to the shoot being halted. If the film is covered under the insurance plan, the producers will not incur a financial loss stemming from the delay.

Kasbekar also said that the insurance will protect their crew just as much. In case any of the key members of the crew test positive, they won’t be replaced unduly.

‘Loop Lapeta’ was to be shot through April and May in Mumbai and Goa. The film that will 70 percent be shot outdoors has had to rework its dates completely in the face of the lockdown, owing to the pandemic.

‘Loop Lapeta’ is an official remake of the German 1998 film ‘Run Lola Run’, written and directed by Tom Tykwer. With Franka Potente in the titular role of Lola, the film also starred Moritz Bleibtreu. The film follows a woman who needs to obtain 100,000 Deutsche Mark in 20 minutes to save her boyfriend’s life. It was a cult classic among the movie buffs.

Taapsee’s last film ‘Thappad’ was critically acclaimed and has been a center of several discussions about patriarchy, sexism and wife-husband dynamics in Indian families.
