Sharjah’s Deputy Ruler passes away

Sheikh Ahmed bin Sultan bin Saqr bin Khalid bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and one of the sons of its former ruler Sheikh Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi, passed away on July 9. Armed with wisdom, far-sighted vision and steadfastness, Sheikh Ahmed faithfully had also served UAE Federation since 1971.

Born in 1948 in Sharjah, Sheikh Ahmed bin Sultan was elected Minister of Justice in the first UAE government ministerial formation, a post he occupied until 1977, and later too until the third ministerial formation in 1990 when he was appointed deputy ruler to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, a position he held until his death.

Sheikh Ahmed was Chairman of the Sharjah Oil Council and Honorary Chairman of Dana Gas. He was also on the board of directors of the Sharjah Liquefaction Gas Company (Shalco).

Believing in the capabilities of young people, and that the future was theirs, Sheikh Ahmed supported them in various fields of work and was their role model. He was keen on his emirate’s progress and development. He was a faithful witness to the prosperity and renaissance that Sharjah has witnessed.

With his departure, Sharjah has lost one of its main pillars who had been a figure of giving, loyalty and tolerance.

Official mourning was also announced, and the UAE flag will be flown half-mast in the Emirate of Sharjah for three days.
