Sharjah to offer free Covid testing for all residents

Our Correspondent

After beginning free Covid-19 testing for residents of Al Nahda, Sharjah is planning to extend the free service to all residential areas in the emirate, authorities said on June 5.

The screening programme is organised by the Ministry of Health and Prevention in coordination with the Sharjah Police. Tests were conducted from 10am to 6pm on June 5 at a mobile screening centre set up in Al Nahda Park, where residents began queuing up from 9 am.

Major Abdul Rahman Bu Ghanem, Director of Support Mission Department, Sharjah Police, confirmed that the free screening campaign will be extended to all neighbourhoods of the emirate. Residential parks will be the primary venue for the campaign, he added.

For each residential area, the process will be done for 10 days, testing 200 people a day. Two days before the schedule, residents will receive a message from the police, explaining where and when they can go to get screened for free. They will have to present the Emirates ID and the text message confirming the day of the test.

This gesture has come as a boon for residents who would otherwise have to pay Dh 200-400 for the test.
