Dubai: For parents of children attending private schools in Sharjah, the academic calendar for the 2025-2026 school year, as outlined by the Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA), provides key dates to help with family planning. If you are looking to plan your next vacation or simply want to know when the upcoming spring break falls, the calendar can offer the necessary details.
It is important to note that schools have some flexibility in adjusting the calendar, provided they meet the Ministry of Education (MOE) requirements for the minimum number of school days – 188 days for schools following the MOE curriculum and 182 days for those offering an international curriculum.
Foreign Curriculums
For schools following foreign curriculums, for example International Baccalaureate (IB) British or American, spring break will take place from March 24 to April 6, 2025, lasting two weeks. The academic year will end on July 3, 2025, and the new school year will begin on August 28, 2025.
For the 2025-2026 academic year, winter break will start on December 22, 2025, and end on January 4, 2026, lasting two weeks. Spring break will occur from March 23 to March 29, 2026, lasting one week. The school year will conclude on July 2, 2026.
Asian Curriculums
For schools following Asian curriculums, mainly Indian schools, the academic year typically ends on March 20, and the new school year begins on April 7. Summer vacation will run from July 7 to August 24, 2025, lasting seven weeks.
Winter break for 2025-2026 will also begin on December 22 and end on January 4. In 2026, the school year will end on March 19.
Public holidays
The dates for public holidays, such as Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha, are determined by moon sightings and are officially confirmed just days in advance by the UAE’s Moon-Sighting Committee. Private schools will notify parents of public holiday dates based on the latest government announcements.
Predicted Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr dates
The predicted start date for Ramadan in 2025 is March 1, according to Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Emirates Astronomy Society. If Ramadan lasts for 30 days and ends on March 30, the Eid Al Fitr holiday is expected to run from Monday, March 31, to Thursday, April 3. However, if Ramadan lasts for 29 days and ends on March 29, the Eid Al Fitr holiday will begin on Sunday, March 30, and extend until Wednesday, April 2.
By keeping these important dates in mind, parents can plan their schedules accordingly, both for the academic year and public holidays.
