Sharjah Launches Automated Rental Contract Service Integrated with SEWA

Sharjah ∙ In a significant move toward digital transformation, Sharjah Municipality has launched a new smart service that streamlines the rental contract certification process, enabling tenants to complete procedures swiftly and without the need for physical office visits or manual documentation.

This initiative comes as part of a digital integration with the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA). Once a lease is submitted through the system, the details are automatically verified using municipal records. Upon approval, the contract is electronically forwarded to SEWA, initiating the process of activating utilities.

Tenants then receive an SMS notification with the required electricity deposit amount. After completing the payment via the specified method, electricity services are activated without delay, completing the rental process seamlessly.

Enhancing Government Efficiency

Abdullah Ali Al Shuhail, Director of the Rental Regulation Department at Sharjah Municipality, described the service as a transformative step in improving public service delivery. “It saves time and effort for all parties and reflects our commitment to providing convenient, efficient services through digital innovation,” he stated.

The new service is accessible through “Aqari”, Sharjah’s official digital platform for real estate services. The project was developed in collaboration with the Sharjah Digital Office and SEWA, as part of the emirate’s broader goal of achieving fully digitalised government services.

Step-by-Step Process: How It Works

  1. The tenant submits the rental contract via Sharjah Municipality’s digital platform.
  2. The system automatically verifies the information using municipal data.
  3. The approved contract is sent electronically to SEWA.
  4. The tenant receives a text message detailing the electricity deposit amount.
  5. The deposit is paid through the designated payment channels.
  6. SEWA activates the electricity service at the property once payment is confirmed.

This fully digital workflow eliminates the need for in-person visits or additional paperwork, offering a faster, more convenient experience for tenants, landlords, and service providers alike.
