A wooden statue of the US first lady Melania Trump has been damaged after being set on fire near her home town in Sevnica leading to its removal, according to reports.
Brad Downey, a Berlin-based American artist, who commissioned the sculpture said the statue is now blackened and disfigured.
“I want to know why they did it,” said Downey, who is hoping that the statue would spark conversations about the political scenario in the United States highlighting mainly the immigration issues.
Meanwhile, the white house did not respond to the incident yet. Police have launched an investigation to look into the matter. In January, a large wooden statue resembling Donald Trump was also burned to the ground in Slovenia.
The statue was first unveiled in July 2019. The sculpture was carved with a chainsaw by local folk artist Ales Zupevc from the trunk of a living linden tree.
