Russia Endorses Oman’s Mediation in Iran-US Talks, Condemns Israeli Military Escalation

Muscat: Russia has expressed strong support for Oman’s mediation efforts in the ongoing Iran-US dialogue, emphasizing diplomacy over military confrontation as the path to resolving Tehran’s nuclear file.

Speaking at the General Assembly of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) in St. Petersburg, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova reaffirmed Moscow’s stance that a peaceful resolution—facilitated through Oman’s diplomatic channels—is the only viable solution. She strongly rejected Israeli military actions, stating that force would only escalate tensions in the region.

Zakharova commended the Sultanate of Oman for its steady and constructive role in promoting dialogue and stability in the Middle East, highlighting Muscat’s reputation for quiet but effective diplomacy.

Russia’s remarks reflect a broader international endorsement of Oman’s neutral and principled approach to regional conflict resolution. The statement follows a joint call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, during which both leaders condemned Israeli strikes on Iran and urged all parties to return to negotiations.
