RTA Launches Major Trailer Safety Inspection Campaign Across Dubai

Dubai: In a bid to enhance road safety, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has initiated a large-scale inspection campaign titled “Trailer Safety”, targeting trailers and semi-trailers operating within the emirate.

Spearheaded by the RTA’s Licensing Activities Monitoring Department, the campaign was launched in the first quarter of 2025 and focused on ensuring that all trailers comply with technical and safety regulations.

Strategic Coverage and Inspections
The campaign covered six key locations, including major roads such as Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road. A total of 2,638 field inspections were conducted on heavy vehicles, with 177 trailers undergoing detailed evaluations.

Inspectors examined critical safety components, including:

  • Tyre condition
  • Brake efficiency
  • Lighting systems
  • Validity of licenses
  • Driver permits

Violations and Technical Issues
The inspections revealed 134 technical faults and led to the issuance of 88 violations. The most frequent issues involved:

  • Worn or unsafe tyres
  • Faulty rear and side lighting
  • Missing reflective safety stickers
  • Unsafe loading practices

These violations were identified as serious threats to the safety of other road users.

Commitment to Safety
Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of RTA’s Licensing Agency, emphasized the importance of such initiatives:

“RTA is committed to conducting regular inspection campaigns, particularly in the road transport sector, to uphold the highest standards of safety on Dubai’s roads.”

He further noted:

“This campaign forms part of our annual strategic plan aimed at raising awareness among both commercial operators and the general public. By promoting compliance with traffic regulations and encouraging regular maintenance of heavy vehicles, we aim to reduce violations and mitigate risks associated with technical negligence.”

The RTA plans to continue similar initiatives throughout the year to reinforce Dubai’s position as a leader in transport safety and regulation.
