Prisoners pardoned and traffic fines slashed ahead of UAE National Day

With the UAE’s 49th National Day celebrations round the corner, the Rulers of various emirates have pardoned prison inmates while police departments have offered reduction in traffic fines.

President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered the release of 628 prisoners who will also have their debts and fines paid off.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Ruler of Dubai, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, has ordered the release of 472 prisoners from Dubai’s correctional and punitive establishments while H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, has ordered the release of 219 prisoners. H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mu’alla, the Ruler of Umm Al Qaiwain, has also ordered the release of a number of prisoners.

Traffic fines discount

Based on the decision of Sharjah Executive Council, the Sharjah Police General Command has announced a 50 per cent reduction in traffic fines, from December 2, 2020, for a period of 49 days. This includes all violations committed before December 1, 2020, with the exception of major violations, cancellation of vehicle seizures. Traffic points resulting from all violations will also be cancelled.

Ajman Police will also reduce traffic fines by 50 per cent and cancel the seizure of vehicles and issuing of traffic points, from December 2, 2020, for a one-month period.
The resolution applies to all traffic violations committed in Ajman before November 23, 2020, except those related to driving vehicles in ways that endanger the lives of others, changing a vehicle’s engine or chassis without a licence, and violating the precautionary measures adopted by the country to limit the spread of COVID-19.
