PM Modi, CMs likely to get COVID vaccine jab in the second phase

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, Chief Ministers of states may get vaccinated against COVID-19 in the second phase of India’s mega vaccination drive.

The Centre is currently conducting phase 1 of the vaccination, under which healthcare workers and frontline workers are receiving the vaccination. At present India has administered vaccines to around 3 crore healthcare and frontline workers. So far, as per data of Union Health Ministry, a total of 7,86,842 beneficiaries have been vaccinated for the novel coronavirus as on 20 January 2021, 06:00 pm.

In the second phase, it is the turn of those above 50 and people with comorbidities to take shots. PM Modi during his meeting with CMs of different states, reportedly said politicians who are above 50 could be vaccinated in the next phase.

PM Modi on January 16 launched India’s coronavirus vaccination through a video conference.

Across the world, prominent people like Joe Biden, Kamala Harris have already taken the shots, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will soon join the league of leaders taking the jabs.

Meanwhile, India has sent its consignment of COVID-19 vaccines to neighbouring Nepal. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson said a plane carrying vaccines took off for Nepal on Thursday. Meanwhile, an Asha worker in Punjab developed health complications after she took the coronavirus vaccine being administered to healthcare workers.
