Panel formed to reconsider minimum marriageable age for women

In his address to the nation on August 15, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that a committee has been set up to reconsider minimum age for marriage of girls in India. Proper actions will be taken once the committee submit it’s report. He delivered his speech on the occasion of the 74th independence Day at the Red Fort.

“We have set up a committee to reconsider the minimum age for marriage of our daughters. We will take appropriate decision after the committee submits its report,” Modi said.

He added that the country is determined to provide equal opportunities for self-employment and employment to women.

“Whenever women received opportunity, they made India proud and strengthened it. Today, the nation is determined to provide equal opportunities for self-employment and employment to them. Today women are working in coal mines, our daughters are touching the skies while flying fighter planes,” he said.
