Over 3,500 from across Oman join heritage walk through Nizwa

Muscat: Organized by the Tourism Committee of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in collaboration with the Nizwa Club and the Al Sumood Adventure Team, the event brought history to life.

Inaugurated by His Excellency Eng. Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, the walk began at the historic Nizwa Souq parking lot. The journey followed the scenic White Valley Trail, traversed the lush Daris orchards, and meandered through the ancient Al Suwaiq neighborhood, with its iconic narrow alleys and old buildings. Participants explored landmarks like Bait Sulait Fort, Al Madah neighborhood, and the UNESCO-listed Daris Falaj.

As the walk continued, attendees marveled at the green Al Ghantaq area, visited ancient mosques like Khurasin, and explored the historic Al Aqar neighborhood, home to notable mosques such as Al Shawathna and Al Fardh. The journey culminated at the majestic Nizwa Fort, passing the Al Aqar Wall, a testament to Omani architectural brilliance.
Khalfan bin Hamad Al Zaidi, Chairman of Nizwa Club, highlighted the success of the event, which recorded 3,607 participants, including 250 walk-ins. Al Zaidi emphasized the walk’s aim to showcase Nizwa’s rich heritage, including landmarks like Bait Sulait Fort and Falaj Daris.

Participants enjoyed rest stops at Wadi Kalbuh, featuring educational presentations about the sites along the route. Al Zaidi also announced plans for a second walk in November, promising an even larger and more engaging event.
