Muscat : His Excellency Eng. Saeed bin Hamoud bin Saeed Al Mawali, Minister of Transport, Communication and Information Technology, led the session, highlighting key achievements and outlining future initiatives.
In his address, His Excellency emphasised the significant contributions of the logistics and communications sectors to the Sultanate’s economy. He revealed that by the end of 2024, these sectors will have contributed more than RO 2 billion to the country’s GDP, underscoring their vital role in economic growth.
The Minister also provided insights into the Ministry’s investments in development projects. He announced that the total expenditures on these projects had reached RO 989 million, with 93 percent allocated specifically to the road network. Additionally, His Excellency highlighted a notable achievement in project management, reporting a 42 percent decrease in the number of change orders compared to 2020, reflecting improved efficiency and planning.
He further noted that the total value of road construction, rehabilitation and maintenance projects supervised by the Ministry during the period 2020-2024 amounted to more than RO 1 billion.
Highlighting the success in Omanisation rates, the Minister pointed out that the logistics sector recorded an increase of 21 percent by the end of 2024, with the communications and information technology sector reaching to 38 percent. This is in addition to 333 Omanis that were appointed in specialized positions in companies implementing road projects supervised by the ministry.
As part of its 2025 logistics sector employment initiatives, the Ministry plans to raise the percentage of Omani workers in the transport and logistics sector to 10 percent, and in the communications and information technology sector to 41 percent.
Looking ahead, the Ministry outlined ambitious plans for 2025, focusing on continued infrastructure development, technological advancements, and further expansion of the logistics and communications sectors to support the country’s long-term economic goals.
His Excellency Eng. Saeed Mawali explained that the current year will see the implementation of 30 projects with a total value of more than RO 800 million. It will cover a total length of over 700 km, including the completion of strategic roads, rehabilitation works as well as upgrading and maintaining roads, in addition to logistical and tourism linkage projects.
According to the Minister, the most important of these projects are the dualisation of the Raysut-Al Mughsail road, the dualisation of the Adam-Haima-Thumrait road, which extends for a length of 400 km from the Wilayat of Haima to the Wilayat of Thumrait, the dualisation of the Al Kamil and Al Wafi – Jalan Bani Bu Hassan – Jalan Bani Bu Ali road, and the dualization of the Rub Al Khali road (first phase).
The ongoing media meeting serves as a platform for transparency and collaboration between the Ministry and the public, reinforcing the commitment to enhancing Oman’s infrastructure and technology sectors in the coming years.
