Oman’s Shura Council to host Labour Minister for discussion on temporary employment initiatives

MUSCAT : The session aims to discuss “Temporary Employment Initiatives,” a key issue impacting the Sultanate’s workforce and labour market.

In a statement, His Excellency Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Nadabi, Secretary-General of the Shura Council, explained that the hosting is in accordance with Article 68 of the Council of Oman Law and Article 56 of the Shura Council Law, which empowers the council to exercise oversight through tools like discussion requests.

The discussion will center on various aspects of temporary employment, including the outcomes of government temporary work contracts, plans to develop these contracts, and challenges in implementing other private-sector contracts. The dialogue will also address the Ministry’s vision for managing temporary work contracts in light of fluctuating labour market conditions and advancements in technology and artificial intelligence.
To prepare for this critical discussion, the Shura Council conducted a comprehensive study, gathering data, identifying challenges, and formulating proposals to mitigate the effects of temporary employment policies. A preparatory team has been established to streamline the session.

Additionally, the Council will review key draft laws referred by the government, including the draft law on collecting state dues and the draft law on the rights of persons with disabilities.
