Oman’s Shura Council hosts Education Minister to discuss key policies and plans

Muscat : The session provided a platform for the Minister to present the Ministry of Education’s statement on key issues concerning the education sector in Oman.

The statement, which covers four main areas, aims to address the current state and future direction of education in the Sultanate. These areas include school education policies, the quality of school education, human resources, training and qualification, and private school education.

It focuses on school education policies, discussing the role of education within the 10th Five-Year Plan, evaluating the performance of education up to the middle of the plan, and exploring future strategic plans. It also delves into the realities and challenges of school education in light of the School Education Law, along with the alignment of post-basic education tracks with labour market needs.

The second area addresses the quality of school education in Oman, including evaluations of educational curricula and their alignment with global trends. The Ministry’s efforts in e-learning, educational platforms, and digital transformation will be highlighted, as well as the use of artificial intelligence in education. Special education programs for students with disabilities and autism are also included in the statement, alongside improvements in student services, such as transportation, textbook printing, and extracurricular activities.

The third topic covers human resources, training, and development within the Ministry of Education. Discussions include Omanisation plans, the educational rehabilitation program’s alignment with future needs, the recruitment of expatriate teachers, and the professional development of educational staff, as outlined in Article (52) of the School Education Law.

The fourth focuses on private school education in Oman, examining public-private partnership projects, cooperation, and support for private schools. Investment policies aimed at enhancing the economic returns from the school education sector and encouraging growth in private education were also explored.
