Oman’s airports see 3.1% increase in passenger traffic, Indians top the chart

Muscat : Oman’s airports experienced a 3.1 percent increase in passenger traffic by the end of November 2024, with a total of 13,277,414 passengers traveling on 98,933 flights, compared to 12,873,020 passengers on 97,802 flights during the same period in 2023.

Preliminary data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information reveals that Muscat International Airport handled 11,737,391 passengers, marking a 2.7 percent increase compared to the previous year. The number of flights at Muscat International also saw a rise of 1.4 percent, with 88,000 flights operated. This includes 79,675 international flights carrying 10,647,982 passengers and 8,327 domestic flights with 1,089,409 passengers.

Salalah Airport also witnessed growth, with a 5.5 percent increase in passenger numbers, reaching 1,417,947 passengers by November 2024. The number of flights at Salalah Airport, however, decreased by 2 percent, totaling 9,751 flights. Of these, 4,693 were international flights carrying 612,994 passengers, while 5,058 were domestic flights with 804,953 passengers.

Sohar Airport and Duqm Airport reported smaller passenger volumes, with 66,531 passengers traveling on 610 flights through Sohar and 55,545 passengers on 570 flights through Duqm by the end of November 2024.

Analysis of passenger nationality data shows that Indian nationals were ranked as the highest travellers at Muscat International Airport, with a total of 153,557 passengers (76,852 arriving and 76,705 departing). Omani nationals followed with 115,871 passengers (57,058 arriving and 58,813 departing), while Pakistani nationals made up 49,438 passengers (24,115 arriving and 25,323 departing).
