Oman to host 8th Indian Ocean Conference

Muscat : The conference will highlight the importance of inclusivity and building new partnerships in the maritime sector.

In a statement to the Oman News Agency, His Excellency Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Albusaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, pointed out that the Sultanate’s hosting of this conference reflects its commitment to enhancing maritime security, support sustainable maritime trade, and develop international cooperation mechanisms to address common challenges in the region.
He added that the conference is a strategic platform for exchanging visions on the future of the blue economy and ocean governance, stressing the Sultanate of Oman’s aspiration for constructive discussions that contribute to achieving the interests of the participating countries and enhancing regional stability and prosperity.

The conference aims to strengthen collaboration among nations and institutions to address shared challenges, enhance connectivity, and promote sustainable development in the region. The event is expected to host participants from over 60 countries and international organizations, reflecting the region’s strategic importance and the need for collaborative solutions.

The conference is an annual international platform that aims to enhance regional cooperation and address the challenges facing the Indian Ocean region. This is in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, which promotes economic interests with countries in the region and the world. It highlights the pioneering role of Oman in preserving the sustainability of the Indian Ocean resources, enhancing its capabilities in transportation and maritime security.
The Indian Ocean Conference (IOC) is a prominent international platform and forum, the first edition of which was launched in 2016. It has become a major arena for enhancing cooperation between the Indian Ocean countries and global powers with strategic interests in the region. Countries such as the Sultanate of Oman, India, Sri Lanka, Australia and Singapore have played pivotal roles in its activities.
