Oman reaffirms commitment to global social development at 63rd UN session in New York

NEW YORK: Centered on the theme “Promoting Solidarity, Inclusion and Social Cohesion to Implement the Commitments of the Copenhagen Declaration on Social Development and the Programme of Action of the World Summit for Social Development,” the event brought together member states to exchange insights on pivotal social development concerns.

During the session, His Excellency Ambassador Omar bin Saeed Al Kathiri, Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations, delivered a keynote address outlining Oman’s strides in social protection and social insurance programmes. He emphasized how these initiatives ensure comprehensiveness and justice in social policies, echoing the guiding principles of Oman’s Vision 2040 to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Omani delegation spotlighted national efforts to bolster solidarity and social cohesion by adopting inclusive policies and programmes that empower various social groups. This participation reaffirmed the Sultanate’s resolve to support global efforts to fast-track the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development goals and uphold the core tenets of the Copenhagen Programme of Action for building more inclusive and prosperous societies.

Over the course of the summit, delegates engaged in discussions on pressing social development topics, including fighting poverty, promoting social integration, and striving for social justice.
