Muscat : The Sultanate of Oman has officially launched its first tourist hot air balloon under the “Oman Balloons” initiative, beginning with a promotional flight in Cappadocia, Republic of Turkiye—an internationally renowned destination for ballooning. The launch marks a significant milestone in Oman’s efforts to diversify and enhance its tourism offerings.
The initiative, led by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, is designed to attract global expertise in hot air balloon operations and localize that knowledge within Oman. The project aims to position the country as a leading regional and international destination for experiential and adventure tourism.
“Oman Balloon No. 1” will commence its official operations within the Sultanate from the Wilayat of Bidiyah in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate. The experience will offer tourists a stunning aerial view of Oman’s diverse landscapes, ranging from golden deserts to majestic mountains.
The balloon, approved by the Civil Aviation Authority of Oman, is custom-built to suit the country’s climate and can accommodate up to 20 passengers along with a technical crew consisting of a pilot and an assistant.
The “Oman Balloons” project is one of the key initiatives supported by the Ministry to promote experiential tourism and foster public-private partnerships. By offering panoramic views of the country’s natural beauty and cultural heritage, the project aims to attract both domestic and international tourists seeking unique and memorable experiences.
This innovative tourism product reflects the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to expanding adventure tourism, supporting private-sector initiatives, and reinforcing Oman’s status as a vibrant and diverse travel destination.
