Oman launches first phase of national virtual tour in collaboration with Google

MUSCAT : The event, held under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Nasser Al Zaabi, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defense, marks a significant step in showcasing Oman’s rich heritage, stunning landscapes, and modern infrastructure to a global audience.

The project offers users a unique opportunity to virtually explore Oman’s natural beauty and historical landmarks and aims to attract worldwide interest in the Sultanate’s tourism and business sectors. The launch event included a live demonstration of the virtual tour experience, allowing attendees to explore iconic locations, such as the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Khor Rori. Using cutting-edge Trekkers, images were captured over an impressive 36,000-square-kilometre area, highlighting the diverse cultural and natural wonders of the country.

The first phase of the project focuses on key sites, with plans to expand coverage in 2025. The second phase will include additional landmarks and locations, providing an even more comprehensive view of Oman’s stunning attractions.
