Oman extends Eid Al Adha holidays

Oman has extended Eid Al Adha holidays this year from July 30 until August 6, Oman News Agency reported on July 27. The decision comes on the basis directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, Times of Oman reported.

Earlier, Oman had announced that Eid holidays will be from July 30 until August 3.

Oman had earlier banned travel between all its governorates from July 25 to August 8, including the Eid holiday, to prevent the spread of the COVID-19. Its Health Ministry described the measure as a “total lockdown” of all governorates. The Gulf country also implements a daily curfew from 7pm to 6am during the period, when shops and public spaces will be closed.

Oman, a country of 4.7 million people, recorded 1,053 new COVID-19 cases, along with 1,729 recoveries on July 27. The figures take the total number of cases to 77,058, and recoveries to 57,028.
With nine new deaths, the total deaths now stand at 393.

Over 3,500 new Covid-19 tests have been carried out in the country, taking the total to 300,493.
