Oman Denies Plans to Sell Natural Gas Shares Amid Energy Conference and Sustainability Week

MUSCAT : The Ministry of Energy and Minerals of Oman has officially refuted recent media reports suggesting plans to sell stakes in the country’s natural gas fields. This clarification comes ahead of the Oman Petroleum and Energy Exhibition and Conference (OPEEC) and Oman Sustainability Week 2025, scheduled to commence on Monday, May 12, at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre.

In a statement, Dr. Saleh Al Anbouri, Director General of Planning and Studies at the Ministry, emphasized that the circulating news about selling shares in natural gas fields is inaccurate. He stated that the Ministry is focused on enhancing operational efficiency and attracting global technical and investment expertise through strategic partnerships. These collaborations aim to transfer knowledge and add value within Oman without compromising the ownership or sovereignty of strategic national assets.

Dr. Al Anbouri further explained that the Ministry continues to oversee the implementation of major development projects in gas fields, aligning with global best practices in sustainability and financing. These initiatives are grounded in solid financial foundations and well-thought-out investment plans that align with the country’s future aspirations, eliminating the need to divest from natural gas-producing assets.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability, maintaining coordination with both local and international partners to serve Oman’s interests and bolster its position as a trusted regional hub in the energy sector.

This statement follows earlier reports suggesting that Oman was considering selling a stake in natural gas assets valued at approximately $8 billion to raise funds for state finances and investments. However, the Ministry’s recent announcement clarifies that there are no such plans to divest from these strategic assets.
