Oman and Russia unveil joint stamp to mark 40 years of diplomatic ties

Muscat: The initiative comes as part of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s state visit to Russia, symbolizing deep-rooted ties and mutual respect between the two nations.

The commemorative stamp, launched by Oman Post, features a striking artistic design that pays tribute to the rich maritime heritage shared by Oman and Russia. It celebrates 40 years of strong diplomatic, cultural, and economic relations and serves as a symbol of growing cooperation and shared vision between the two countries.

At the heart of the design are two historical navigators: the renowned 15th-century Omani explorer Ahmed bin Majid Al Saadi, known for his scientific contributions in mapping seas and locations such as the Caspian Sea and Derbent; and Afanasy Nikitin, the Russian merchant and traveler celebrated as the first Russian to set foot on the Arabian Peninsula. Nikitin’s records of attending an Easter Mass in Muscat highlight Oman’s long-standing legacy of religious tolerance and openness.
