Oman and India sign executive programme for cooperation in archives management

NEW DELHI : The agreement, which aims to enhance collaboration in the management and preservation of records and archives, was signed by His Excellency Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed Al Dhoyani, Chairman of the National Records and Archive Authority (NRAA), and His Excellency Arun Singhal, Director General of the National Archives of India.
The executive programme outlines a wide range of cooperative efforts, including the exchange and copying of documents, the preservation of historical manuscripts and books, and collaboration on publishing cultural, literary, and historical works. It also emphasises the importance of organising conferences, exhibitions, and workshops in the field of archives management, with the goal of building capacities, sharing expertise, and conducting scientific research.

H.E. Dr. Hamad Dhoyani explained that the programme will help support Oman’s vision for an integrated archives system while promoting mutual historical and cultural awareness between the two nations. He highlighted the importance of technical support, capacity-building initiatives, and the exchange of manuscripts, particularly as they relate to both nations’ rich civilizational histories.

In response, H.E. Arun Singhal pointed out that the agreement would open new avenues for cultural and civilisational exchange, stating that the research and exploration of the National Archives of India’s vast collections could lead to discovering valuable Omani documents in India, while similarly, Indian archives in Oman would also be examined and preserved.
The signing ceremony was attended by His Excellency Issa bin Saleh Al Shaibani, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to India, reinforcing the strong diplomatic relations between the two countries.
