Oman and Belarus to forge stronger ties

Muscat: This comes following the announcement of the official visit of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to Oman, where he will meet with His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik.

The discussions are set to bolster trade, investment, and cooperation in strategic sectors such as renewable energy, green hydrogen, heavy industries, and high technology. President Lukashenko’s visit follows a series of significant engagements, including Prime Minister Roman Gulovitchenko’s visit to Oman last October, during which several memoranda of understanding were signed. These agreements laid the groundwork for economic and investment collaboration and included information technology, trade, and engineering initiatives.
Ambassador Hamoud bin Salem Al Towaih, Oman’s Ambassador to Russia and Belarus, highlighted the visit’s importance in diversifying trade exchanges and creating new opportunities for both nations.
Cultural and academic ties also feature prominently in the bilateral relationship. Past collaborations include exhibitions such as “At the Crossroads of Civilizational Communication” in Muscat and “Oman Day” in Belarus, alongside a Belarusian Cultural Week held in 2020.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992, Oman and Belarus have made significant strides, with agreements on mutual investment protection, double taxation avoidance, and air transport. Looking ahead, both nations aim to leverage their tourism potential to attract new visitors and enhance cultural understanding.
