Oman Achieves 54% of 2024 Employment Goals, Employs 14,074 Omanis

Dubai: The Omani government has reached 54 percent of its employment targets for 2024 within just six months. According to a report by the state-run Oman News Agency, 14,074 Omanis have been employed across both the public and private sectors through direct hiring or the replacement of expatriates.

In detail, 6,963 Omanis have secured jobs in the public sector, aiming for a target of 10,000, while 7,111 have been employed in the private sector out of a target of 16,000. Additionally, 305 Omanis have completed government sector employment-linked training programs, with a goal of 2,000, and 1,107 have finished similar programs in the private sector, against a target of 7,000.

The Ministry of Labour has reiterated its commitment to advancing its employment strategy and regulating the labor market.

In related economic news, Oman’s non-oil sectors experienced a growth of nearly 4 percent in the first quarter of the year, providing a boost to the economy as revenues from the energy sector decline. Data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information reveals that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the first quarter of 2024 saw a modest increase of 0.8 percent year-on-year.
