Renowned short story writer and novelist U A Khader is dead. He was 85 years old
He was under treatment for cancer in a private hospital in Kozhikode where he breathed his last on December 12.
U A Khader was born to Keralite Moideenkutty Hajji and Myanmar native Mamaidi in 1935 at Bilin in Myanmar. He reached Kerala during the World War II.
After completing studies from Koyilandi Government High School, he learned art from Madras College of Arts. He worked in Akashavani Kozhikode station, Medical College Institute of Maternal and Child Health and Government General Hospital and retired from government service in 1990.
Khader is the author of over 70 books in various genres including novels, stories, articles, travelogues and children’s literature. Among them, Thrikkottoor Peruma’ and in 2009, Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award for ‘Thrikkottoor Novelukal’. He has also bagged various honours including SK Pottekkat Award, Padmaprabha Award and Abu Dhabi Shakti Award.
