No end in sight, as Fauci calls coronavirus a perfect storm

It was around a few days back that Donald Trump, the president of the United States claimed that coronavirus will just disappear. However, Anthony Fauci, one of the former lead members of the Trump Administration’s White House Coronavirus Task Force who is now the NIAID director contradicted Trump’s claims and has made it clear that the virus will resurge. Now, Fauci has shockingly revealed that the coronavirus outbreak is a ‘perfect storm’.

“We are living, right now, through a historic pandemic outbreak. And, we are, right now, in a situation where we do not see any particular end in sight. It’s the perfect storm. We often talk about outbreaks and pandemics, be they influenza or other pathogens, that have to have a few characteristics that make them particularly formidable. Well, this particular virus has that,” said Fauci during his talk in a panel hosted by the not-for-profit TB Alliance.

Fauci also made it clear that effective public health measures and good vaccines may control the virus, but it will be hard to completely eradicate it. Calling it a worst nightmare, Fauci revealed that coronavirus is spectacularly efficient in spreading from humans to humans, with a substantial ability of mortality and morbidity.

Fauci also admitted that he is not sure about when an effective vaccine will be introduced.

“I don’t really see us eradicating it. I think with a combination of good public health measures, a degree of global herd immunity, and a good vaccine. I think we’ll get very good control of this. Whether it’s this year or next year, I’m not certain,” added Fauci.

According to the latest statistics, the novel coronavirus that originated from a Chinese seafood market has killed more than 1,47,300 people in the United States alone, while the total number of positive cases has crossed four million.
