No decision yet on on-campus learning, MoE clarifies

The UAE’s Ministry of Education (MoE) clarified on June 9 that it has not said there will be on-campus classes during the next academic year beginning on August 30.

“The MOE denies what’s being circulated that the next school year, starting August 30, will have school students attending on campus. No decision has yet been taken on the matter and the nature of the learning process will be decided according to health developments & precautions,” the Ministry said this in a tweet.

Meanwhile, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), the private schools’ authority of Dubai, said it will go by the decision of the federal government. “Schools are currently scheduled to open in September, though it is still unknown what form this will take or whether that will change. We are working closely with our colleagues in the federal government so that when a decision is made, it will be applicable to all schools in the UAE. We all hope to get schools open to students again as soon as it’s safe to do so,” the KHDA said.

Schools in the UAE have been following e-learning platforms since March. On-campus learning was suspended in schools and universities on March 8 as a precautionary measure against COVID-19.
