Muscat: Oman has taken a significant step in strengthening its global tourism appeal with the launch of a new direct flight route between Muscat and Amsterdam. The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism confirmed that expanding international air connectivity remains central to its strategic efforts to position the Sultanate as a premier travel destination.
The direct route, operated by Oman Air, officially commenced on July 1, 2025, enhancing access to one of Europe’s most prominent tourism and commercial hubs. The service will run four times a week between Muscat International Airport and Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, utilizing state-of-the-art Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. In addition to a premium onboard experience, the new route offers seamless connections to over 40 destinations within Oman Air’s expanding global network, including key cities across Asia and Africa.
Speaking on the occasion, His Excellency Azzan bin Qasim Al Busaidi, Undersecretary for Tourism at the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, emphasized that the launch of this route is a strategic milestone in Oman’s mission to improve connectivity with the European market—especially with the Kingdom of the Netherlands, which serves as a vital gateway to the continent.
“This initiative is expected to boost inbound tourism, promote Oman as a high-value destination for European travelers, and reinforce economic and commercial relations with European Union countries,” he added.
The Ministry has placed special focus on the Dutch tourism market through a series of targeted marketing and promotional efforts. These include consistent participation in high-profile international tourism events such as the Vakantiebeurs Travel Exhibition, hosting the ANVR Congress 2024, and organizing familiarization trips for Dutch travel agencies and media representatives.
Furthermore, Oman will participate in key tourism trade events, including the Reisprof Event and TravDay scheduled for October 2025.
These initiatives aim to showcase Oman’s unique natural landscapes, cultural heritage, and diverse tourism offerings, while reinforcing its status as a leading destination for European travelers seeking authentic experiences.
