New COVID-19 cases in Saudi Arabia top 500 for first time in many months

Single-day coronavirus cases in Saudi Arabia crossed the 500-mark for the first time in many months, with 510 new infections recorded on Friday, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health.

The ministry also announced seven more deaths over the past 24 hours from complications caused by COVID-19.

This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 387,292 and the virus-related fatalities to 6,637.

The ministry also reported 372 recoveries over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 376,203.

The single-day infections in the Riyadh region topped the 200-mark for the second day in a row after many months, with 213 new cases recorded on Friday.

The capital region was followed by the Eastern region with 94 cases and the Makkah region with 79 new infections.

The remaining cases were detected in other regions of the Kingdom with just four of them reporting less than 10 infections.

According to the ministry, there were 4,452 active cases and 630 of them were in critical condition.
