New Consul General of India in Dubai appointed

Aman Puri, a 44-year-old dentist-turned-diplomat will be the next Consul General of India in Dubai. He is currently in charge of the Indian Consulate in Birmingham, the United Kingdom.
Dr. Puri will take charge in mid-July, informed Vipul, the incumbent Consul-General. Vipul, who took charge of the mission in April 2017, will leave for his next posting in New Delhi on July 7 on a Vande Bharat Mission repatriation flight.
Born in 1976, Dr. Puri did his schooling from St John’s High School in Chandigarh and qualified as a dentist from a dental college in Amritsar. He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 2003 and served at the Indian mission to the European Union, Belgium and Luxembourg, based in Brussels, in 2005-08. From 2009-10, he served at the Passport Office in Chandigarh. He also served as the Regional Passport Officer, New Delhi from 2013-16. This period saw many citizen-centric measures being implemented by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
He was Deputy Chief of the Protocol (Ceremonial) from 2010-2013, and his responsibilities included organising the foreign visits of the Prime Minister of India, and incoming visits at the level of heads of states/heads of government, Vice Presidents and Foreign Ministers. He has also had a brief stint as director in the Multi-Lateral Economic Relations Division, followed by the Northern Division of the MEA, which deals with India’s relations with Nepal and Bhutan.
