Netizens urge Laxmmi Bomb boycott citing religious sentiments

NIRMAL YESODA

The trailer of Akshay Kumar’s Laxmmi Bomb, a remake of Tamil blockbuster Kanchana, was released a few days back on Disney’s Hotstar. Even though the trailer succeeded in impressing the fans of the actor, a section of social media users is now conducting a campaign to boycott this film.

According to these critics, the title ‘Laxmmi Bomb’ is derogatory, as it insults Goddess Laxmi. On the other hand, a section of other people argues that Laxmmi Bomb is one such film that is portraying the transgender community in a bad light.

Interestingly, some other social media users have started connecting this movie to ‘Love Jihad’. According to these users, the character played by Akshay in this movie is Asif, while Kiara Advani’s name is Priya.

In the original Tamil version, Raghava Lawrence had played the lead role. However, the role of transgender was immortalized by Sarathkumar. When it comes to the Bollywood version, both these roles are being handled by Akshay Kumar.

Apart from Akshay Kumar and Kiara, Laxmmi Bomb also stars Ayesha Raza Mishra, Tarun Arora, Manu Rishi, and Rajesh Sharma in other prominent roles. The film will be released on November 09, in Disney’s Hotstar.
