Netherlands thanks Oman for help in securing release of embassy worker in Yemen

MUSCAT: Netherlands thanked Oman for securing the release of its Embassy employee from Yemen.

Akram Al-Akhali who was working as a Senior Policy Officer for International Development at Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Yemen was in arbitrary detention in Sana’a for 10 months.

In a statement issued Caspar Veldkamp, the Foreign Minister of Netherlands thanked the Sultanate for playing a crucial role in Akram’s release. “I am relieved that a Yemeni colleague of our Embassy in Yemen was released after 10 months of arbitrary detention in Sana’a. Since then, we have worked on his unconditional release through silent diplomacy. We are deeply grateful to Oman for its vital role in his release,” he said.
“He is doing well, considering the circumstances. In Muscat, he was welcomed by Omani officials and our Ambassadors to Yemen and Oman. We are now focusing on his well-being and recovery,” he added.
