The subscribers of OTT platforms such as Amazon Prime and Netflix have drastically increased due to the coronavirus outbreak, as people started sitting in their homes due to the lockdown measures. The closure of movie halls in various countries has also played a crucial role in elevating the popularity of these platforms. And now, online streaming giant Netflix has introduced a new feature for its customers who watch movies and television shows on Android platforms.
According to the latest updates, Netflix has started rolling out playback controls for Android users. However, subscribers of Netflix who use iOS platform should wait some more days to enjoy this new feature.
Using this new feature, people can watch movies at four different speeds for slowed-down and faster watching. Even though this feature is not available in India now, the OTT company has confirmed that it will be available in the country within the next few weeks.
Netflix revealed that users will be able to choose 0.5x, 0.75x, 1.25x, and 1.5x, aside from the regular 1x speed.
“We’ve also been mindful of the concerns of some creators. It’s why we have capped the range of playback speeds and require members to vary the speed each time they watch something new — versus fixing their settings based on the last speed they used,” a Netflix spokesperson told the Verge.
Keela Robison, Netflix’s vice-president of product innovation revealed that customers have been requesting this new feature for several months, and made it clear that the company is quite glad to meet the needs of esteemed subscribers.
