Nearly 17,000 new COVID-19 cases in India

India on Thursday recorded 16,922 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.This is the highest so far pushing the nationwide numbers to 4,73,105.

According to Union Health Ministry,the number of active cases in the country are 1,86,514.The country also saw 418 deaths in the last 24 hours,which pushed its death toll to 14,894.The country has witnessed a spike of 2,82,570 infections from June 1.Maharashtra ,Delhi,Tamil Nadu,Gujarat,Uttar Pradesh continue to be the worst hit states in the country.Delhi is now India’s worst-hit city as the overall covid-19 cases surpassed Mumbai.The national capital reported 3,788 new cases on Wednesday taking its total to 70,390,more than Mumbai’s tally.

The health ministry officials said on June 24 that among the 4.4 lakh Covid-19 cases reported in the country,only 15.34 percent required ICU care.It also said that only 4.16 percent of patients were put on ventilators.The doubling time of coronavirus infection cases improved from 17.4 days on June 12 to 19.7 days in the last three days.

The ministry also said that the daily testing of samples of blood,throat and nose swabs crossed two lakh for the first time since the outbreak began.The recovery rate has improved to  56.71.Meanwhile,Indian Council of Media Research (ICMR),the apex health research body in the country,validated 1000th testing laboratory on Wednesday,ramping up the capacity for detection of Covid-19 in the country.
