Namma Metro’s Purple Line resumes in Bengaluru amid social distancing rules

Six months back Bengaluru’s Metro train service was stopped following the coronavirus outbreak. And now, Namma Metro is operational again with strict social distancing measures. Authorities have now resumed Metro’s Purple Line, but very low footfall has been recorded so far.

The Purple Line in Bengaluru Metro stretches from Baiyappanahalli to Mysuru Road. The service was resumed on September 7 morning, and as expected, very few passengers were there in the metro station, at a time where peak footfall used to get recorded before the COVID-19 outbreak.

Now, Metro rail services will be there in the Purple Line from 08.00AM to 11.00 AM, while the evening services will be there from 4.30 PM to 07.30 PM. Tokens are not accepted now to travel in metro trains, and authorities are only accepting smart cards.

Namma Metro’s Green Line which stretches from Nagasandra to Yellachenahalli will begin its operations from September 9.

From September 11, all metro trains will operate from 07.00 AM to 09.00 PM. Due to the pandemic, Namma Metro authorities have decided to limit the number of passengers to 400 in each trains. The dwell time has been increased to 60 seconds, so that people can maintain social distancing while boarding and de-boarding.

Metro authorities have equipped all the stations with thermal scanners. Mask wearing is also compulsory to commute in metro trains in Bengaluru.
