Mumbai thrash Kolkata by 8 wickets

Our Correspondent

Mumbai Indians celebrated an eight-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in Abu Dhabi on October 16 night. Mumbai now lead the points table with 12 points and are ahead of Delhi Capitals on net run rate.

Man of the match Quinton de Kock (78* runs off 44 balls, 9×4, 3×6) and skipper Rohit Sharma (35 off 36) put out a 94-run partnership to kickstart the Mumbai innings. They reached the target in 16.5 overs, posting 149/2. Suryakumar Yadav contributed with 10 runs while Hardik Pandya remained unbeaten on 21.

Kolkata, after electing to bat, lost five batsmen in 11 overs, when the total was just 61. MI leg spinner Rahul Chahar removed opener Shubman Gill and Karthik for 21 and four respectively. New captain Eoin Morgan (39 runs off 29 balls) and Pat Cummins (53 off 36) had an 87-run sixth wicket partnership to boost the KKR innings, but 148 was too small a chase for MI. They comfortably chased down the target with 19 balls to spare.

This was KKR’s fourth defeat and the second consecutive one.
