Asia’s richest man has joined a new league of wealth. According to Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries Ltd, entered the top 10 wealthiest in the world. The net worth of Mr. Ambani has jumped to $64.5billion, making him the only Asian tycoon in the exclusive club of the world’s top 10 richest people. The business tycoon overtook Larry Ellison of Oracle Corp, France’s Francoise Bettencourt Meyers, the wealthiest woman to reach the No.9 spot and a notch below Google’s co-founder Larry Page ($64.8 billion).
Ambani has benefitted from a slew of investment into the company’s digital unit, Jio Platforms Ltd. On Friday, Ambani announced that RIL is now a debt free company. RIL has raised 1.75 trillion against its net debt of 1.61 trillion, thanks to the wide reach of his digital platforms.
