This year Miss Kerala pageant goes completely digital

With the COVID-19 pandemic, big, fat, social gatherings and events become a thing of past. With no more than 50 persons allowed even at weddings, one industry being hit by the unprecedented pandemic is pageantry.

Taking note of the same, Impressario, who started the trend of beauty pageants in Kerala, is, planning to conduct the event virtually.

This year, Miss Kerala, the pageant conceived and produced by Impressario, will be taking a digital avatar, with auditions to the final stage of the ceremony are conducted in various tasks and assignments online.

“This is the first time in the history of Miss Kerala pageant that we would fully explore the possibility of the virtual mode,” said Impressario Co-founder Ram C Menon.

Last year, the pageant went digital with three phases of auditions which included social media platforms as well. The first phase of the audition was the ‘Digital Audition’ where the contestants were given tasks and asked to upload the completed tasks to their Instagram, TikTok accounts.

These tasks will be evaluated based on presentation, language proficiency, creativity, confidence, hair and makeup styling and intelligence. After the first phase of digital audition, the organisers selected 100 contestants for the next phase.

“This year, we are making bringing more and varied tasks and auditions that could be done through digital, till the finale. We are still at the planning stage especially how to conduct grooming sessions virtually.” said Mr. Ram. He also said that digital auditions will create opportunities for more aspirants across the globe to try their luck in the prestigious pageant.

The organisers are planning to start the audition on October.

Miss Kerala played an important role in changing the attitude of Malayali girls and their parents towards the world fashion and modelling.

Miss Kerala produced many stars like Ranjini Haridas, Gayathri Suresh, Deepti Sati, Rima Kallingal, Jovita George, Reenu Mathews, to name a few.

Malayali women between the age 18 and 25 with above 5ft height can register in www.misskerala.org. One of the parents of the participants should be a Malayali.
