Miss India runner-up Manya Singh made Manushi Chillar proud

On February 10, Manasa Varanasi became the Miss India World 2020. However, it is Miss India Runner-Up Manya Singh who got the internet’s spotlight and has left everyone super proud.

Manya Singh, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, was crowned Miss India 2020 runner-up on Wednesday. She is the daughter of an autorickshaw driver.

In December 2020, Manya had narrated her life’s story to Miss India before the pageant finale. After she was announced Miss India 2020 runner-up, her inspiring story, struggles and sheer hard work have gone viral once again. She is also winning praises all over the internet.

Talking about her struggles, Manya revealed that she had to spend many nights without food and sleep. She could not attend school as she had to start working very early. She said, “All the clothes I had were hand-me-downs. I yearned for books, but luck wasn’t in my favour. Eventually, my parents mortgaged whatever little jewellery my mother had to ensure that I paid my exam fees in order to earn a degree. My mother has suffered a lot to provide for me.”

She added, “At 14, I ran away from home. I somehow managed to complete my studies in the day, became a dishwasher in the evening, and worked at a call centre at night. I’ve walked hours to reach places so I could save the rickshaw fare.”

Manya also said that she decided to take part in the Miss India pageant to uplift her father, mother and younger brother, and “to show the world that all is possible if you are committed to yourself and your dreams.”

Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar also took to her Instagram stories to celebrate the proud moment and congratulate Manya. She wrote, “Glass ceilings to be shattered.”
