Marsa LNG to position Oman as a key clean fuel hub as Sohar Port begins $1.6 billion project

Muscat : The project is a strategic move to supply low-emission marine fuel at competitive prices, reinforcing Sohar’s role as a regional leader in sustainable maritime transport.

Excavators will remove approximately 4 million cubic meters of material to create a specialized navigation channel and a dedicated berth for LNG bunkering. The infrastructure is expected to be ready by September 2025, after which construction of the core facilities will begin.
Emil Hochsteden, CEO of Sohar Port, called the deepening operations a “pivotal step” in positioning Sohar as a clean fuel hub. “This development strengthens Oman’s commitment to low-carbon solutions and reinforces Sohar Port’s role as a strategic gateway for global trade and innovation,” he stated.
The Marsa LNG project is designed to produce one million metric tons of LNG annually and will be powered by a 300-megawatt solar photovoltaic plant, further enhancing its sustainability credentials.
