In an unfortunate incident, a 22-year-old woman was raped by her colleague inside a garment shop near Juhu Tara road in Mumbai. Police have now arrested the accused Vikas Varma, and he has been charged with sections 342, 376 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
According to police reports, the manager of the shop asked the woman to go to another shop where Vikas Varma was alone. Once the woman entered the shop, Varma pulled down the shutter, and informed the woman that shops are not supposed to open due to coronavirus restrictions. After switching off lights and CCTV cameras, Varma allegedly raped the woman.
The woman lodged a complaint, and the investigation officers soon nabbed the accused. Police officials also revealed that the incident associated with the case happened on August 5.
“She shared her ordeal with her aunt and they filed a complaint at Dharavi police station. But since the incident had occurred under Santacruz police’s jurisdiction, the case was transferred,” said Shriram Koregaonkar, a senior inspector in Santacruz police station.
Vikas Varma is a resident of Vakola, while the survivor hails from Dharavi.
