Maharashtra rules out CBI probe in Sushant Singh Rajput case

Nirmal Yesoda

It was on June 14, 2020 that Bollywood star Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his home in Bandra. The actor was found hanging himself, and investigation officers revealed that the star has committed suicide. However, many of his fans and some of his relatives claimed that there could be foul play surrounding the death, and they urged the government to hand over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

A few days back, Rhea Chakraborty, Sushant’s girlfriend, had also requested the government to initiate a CBI probe. But now, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has revealed that there is no necessity of a CBI investigation in this case. He also made it clear that the Mumbai Police is competent enough to handle this case.

“I have the tweets and the campaign. But I don’t think that a CBI probe is required. The Mumbai Police is competent enough to handle such cases and they are investigating every aspect of the case including professional rivalry. As of now, we do not see any foul play. Details of the investigation will be shared once it is completed,” Deshmukh told Mid Day.

Meanwhile, Rhea Chakraborty has recently requested the cybercrime cell to take necessary actions against people who have been issuing death and rape threats on her post-Sushant’s death. It should be also noted that several social media users had blamed Rhea for the actor’s suicide.

Apart from Rhea, actor Shekhar Suman and Subramaniam Swamy MP had also urged the government to initiate a CBI probe on Sushant’s suicide case.
