Lockdown declared in Oman from July 25 to August 8

On July 21, Oman declared a full lockdown among its governorates starting from next week to limit the spread of the new coronavirus following a spike. A supreme committee tackling COVID-19 said that the lockdown will be from July 25 to August 8, including the Eid Al Adha holiday.

Movement will be banned and all public places and stores will be closed during that period from 7 pm until 6 am. During the lockdown, security patrols and control checkpoints will be intensified, reported the Oman News Agency.

All forms of gatherings, including the Eid prayer, and traditional markets will be banned, it reported.

On July 20, Oman’s Ministry of Health announced 1,739 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Sultanate to 68,400. ONA quoted the ministry as saying that the country had to date registered 326 Covid deaths.

The ministry added that so far 45,150 patients have recovered from the virus. It also noted that the country conducted 3,957 coronavirus tests over the past 24 hours.
