Lightning kills 107 people in Bihar; CM announces compensation

One hundred and seven people have lost their lives due to lightning in Bihar on June 25. The thunderstorms caused widespread damage to property, houses and belongings of the residents, the State disaster management department said. The department further stated, the deaths in lighting strikes happened in 23 districts with Gopalganj district having the maximum number of casualties. According to reports, more than 20 people were injured and have been admitted to hospital.
Expressing grief over the incident, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced Rs.4 lakhs each for 107 people who lost their lives due to thunderstorms in the state.
Meanwhile, the weather department has predicted that heavy rainfall will hit the districts of the state over the next few days.
Mr. Kumar appealed to the people to remain alert and careful during this bad weather conditions. He ordered them to stay indoors as more thunderstorms are expected to take place in the coming days. He further asked people to follow advisories issued by the Disaster Management Department in this regard.
