Kerala sees steady rise in COVID-19 recoveries

On November 3, Kerala reported 6,862 new COVID-19 cases and saw 8,802 recoveries,informed an official statement from the office of Health Minister K K Shailaja.

So far, 3,64,745 people have recovered from the disease, while 84, 713 patients are still under treatment. The total confirmed cases stands at 4,51,130.

Twenty six deaths were also confirmed taking the covid death toll to 1,559.

Local transmission of COVID-19 continues unabated as 5,899 of the newly reported cases contracted the virus through contact. Among this sources of 783 are unknown, the minister said.

Apart from this, 73 healthcare workers also contracted the virus. The count of the infected healthcare workers from the districts are Thiruvananthapuram & Ernakulam 20 each, Kannur 11, Thrissur & Kozhikode 5 each, Kasaragod 4, Pathanamthitta 3, Palakkad & Wayanad 2 each and Malappuram 1.

Out of the new patients, 107 had returned from other states.

As many as 2,96,614 are under observation. Among them, 2,75,844 are in home/institutional quarantine while 20,770 are in hospitals. 2,289 were admitted to hospitals on November 3.

The district-wise statistics of positive cases are: Thrissur-856, Ernakulam- 850, Kozhikode- 842, Alappuzha- 760, Thiruvananthapuram- 654, Kollam- 583, Kottayam- 507, Malappuram- 467, Palakkad- 431, Kannur- 335, Pathnamthitta- 245, Kasaragod- 147, Wayanad- 118 and Idukki – 67.

The figures from the districts for those infected through contact are Thrissur 832, Ernakulam 575, Kozhikode 814, Alappuzha 754, Thiruvananthapuram 467, Kollam 574, Kottayam 507, Malappuram 440, Palakkad 221, Kannur 225, Pathanamthitta 168, Kasargod 141, Wayanad 109 and Idukki 42.

The district-wise tally of the patients who tested negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 563, Kollam 721, Pathanamthitta 279, Alappuzha 656, Kottayam 641, Idukki 76, Ernakulam 865, Thrissur 921, Palakkad 1,375, Malappuram 945, Kozhikode 922, Wayanad 83, Kannur 477 and Kasaragod 278.

61,138 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. So far 47, 89,542 samples including those collected from priority groups as part of sentinel surveillance were sent for testing.

Four places in Kottayam and Ernakulam districts were demarcated as new hotspots even as nine areas were exempted. There are 652 hotspots in Kerala now.
